Fisheries & Aquaculture Stewardship Programs
Through the restoration of mangroves and cultivation of seaweed, Oceanpick promotes nature-based climate action. We planted mangrove seedlings and propagules in China Bay, focusing on degraded coastal sections, in collaboration with community organizations. We intend to keep up these efforts every year, extending Sri Lanka’s blue carbon regions. These mangroves and seaweed beds are vital for stabilizing shorelines, minimizing erosion, improving habitat quality, and supporting fish and crab nursery environments. Healthy coastal ecosystems strengthen climate resilience by storing carbon naturally, making them some of the most effective “blue carbon” sinks.
Involving the community makes restoration a shared responsibility by ensuring that young plants receive better care and survive. The program improves natural storm buffers, boosts long-term biodiversity, and increases the productivity of local fisheries.
