A Landmark Agreement to Combat Ocean Plastic Pollution
Oceanpick has officially joined forces with the Sri Lanka Navy to launch a cutting-edge marine strainer project at Codbay Harbour, marking a major milestone in our ongoing Plastic-Free Codbay Harbour initiative. Today, an agreement was signed to proceed with the deployment of Sri Lanka’s first marine strainer system, with full operational approval from the Codbay Navy Base.
This innovative floating barrier system is designed to intercept plastic waste at ocean entry points, preventing it from drifting into open waters and harming marine ecosystems. With the Navy’s technical support and strategic collaboration, the system will be put to test in the coming months—ushering in a new era of preventive ocean conservation.
This Project Represents
- Sri Lanka’s first ocean-based plastic interception system
- A model for plastic-free marine infrastructure
- A powerful public-private partnership for environmental innovation
- Direct protection for marine life and aquaculture operations
- A scalable solution for other coastal regions across the country
Together with the Sri Lanka Navy, Oceanpick is proving that innovation, collaboration, and commitment can reshape the future of our oceans—starting right here in Trincomalee.
