Beach Cleaning
We cleaned ~200 m of Karamaliyootru Beach and removed/segregated about 88 kg of waste (plastic bottles, cans, glass, damaged fishing gear) for proper disposal with local partners.
Why It Matters
- Keeps plastic and ghost gear out of the ocean.
- It makes the coast safer and cleaner for fishers, families, and visitors.
- Builds a habit of waste separation in the community.
Possible Impacts
- Short term – visibly cleaner shoreline, and community pride.
- Long term – lower microplastic load, better public behavior through repeat cleanups.
SDG Alignment
- SDG 14 – Life Below Water
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
