Plastic-Free Fisheries Harbor Cleanups

Oceanpick’s Bold Journey Toward Sri Lanka’s First Plastic-Free Harbor!

Cod Bay Harbour

22 Mar 2025

At Oceanpick, sustainability is not just a goal—it’s a responsibility we live by. That is why we launched the Plastic-Free Cod-bay Harbour initiative, a groundbreaking campaign to transform Cod-bay into Sri Lanka’s first harbor to eliminate plastic waste entirely. It all began with a vision: to protect our oceans by starting at the shoreline. Cod bay, a vibrant coastal hub, became the perfect place to lead this change. On March 21, 2025, Oceanpick, in collaboration with the Cod-bay Harbour Corporation, kicked off the first physical cleanup of the pier and surrounding waters.

Volunteers, harbor staff, and environmental advocates came together to remove plastic debris and restore the harbor’s natural beauty. But this is just the beginning. Oceanpick will return next time with the Sri Lanka Navy joining forces to expand our reach and impact. These cleanups are not one-off events; they’re part of a long-term strategy to reshape how harbors operate and how communities engage with their environment. Every piece of plastic collected is logged, every action tracked. Oceanpick is committed to data-driven sustainability, using these insights to measure environmental impact, refine our approach, and ensure transparent ESG reporting.
