Aquaculture Biosecurity Awareness
Oceanpick organized an aquaculture biosecurity awareness session with expert support to guide around 55 families on common fish disease risks, viral, bacterial, and parasitic and how everyday hygiene can prevent outbreaks. The session felt grounded in real life, families spoke about what they’ve seen in ponds and nets, and the training linked those experiences to practical habits like cleaning equipment, keeping areas sanitary, and avoiding risky practices that spread disease. The ration packs were an added support, recognizing that time spent learning and improving practices is still time away from income. Overall, it strengthened the connection between scientific knowledge and community livelihoods and showed that prevention is cheaper, safer, and better for the environment than responding after a crisis hits.
