International Coastal Cleanup Day
We participated in a large joint cleanup at Deer Park Beach with MEPA, DS Office, NRC (Negombo Recycling Club), OCU Regional Center (Cod Bay), and the Cinepress Club of Trincomalee Eastern University, bringing together around 100 participants and cleaning approximately 300 meters. A total of 290.7 kg of waste was collected, including mixed debris and recyclable fractions like plastics, cardboard, and glass. The scale of the waste was a powerful reminder of how quickly pollution builds up when disposal systems and public habits don’t keep up. What stood out most was the collaboration, different groups showing up with one shared purpose, proving that real coastal protection requires partnerships, not isolated efforts.
