Plastic-Free Fisheries Harbor Cleanup Series (1)
Oceanpick runs the Plastic-Free Fisheries Harbor initiative at Cod Bay as a continuous cleanup series, not a one-off event. Collected PET bottles and sending 72.5 kg to the Trincomalee collector of the Negombo Recycling Club (NRC). Harbors are high-leakage points and plastic can move quickly from the ground into water, especially with tides, rain, and daily foot traffic. This cleanup focused on removing what had already accumulated, while also reinforcing the habit of separating PET and ensuring it reaches a proper recycling pathway. The work also improved the feel of the harbor space itself, cleaner, safer, and more respectful for fishers, families, and workers who spend long hours there.
